Tiger Woods has made a court appearance in his DUI case, with his girlfriend Vanessa Trump by his side as he changed his plea from not guilty to no contest on Wednesday, September 2.
Woods, 50, appeared at a court in Stuart, Florida, alongside Trump, 48. The golfer was sentenced to a five-year driver’s licence suspension and a $1,000 fine after the state amended the charges to reckless driving and careless driving.
Woods had initially pleaded not guilty after his March 27 arrest. His attorney, Doug Duncan, filed a motion on September 1 seeking to change the plea.
The case stems from a crash near Woods’ home in Jupiter Island, Florida, where his Land Rover rolled over after he “overtook” a truck carrying a pressure-cleaning trailer, according to an arrest affidavit.
Deputies who responded to the crash said they found hydrocodone pills in Woods’ pocket and observed what the affidavit described as signs of impairment, including “bloodshot and glassy” eyes and “extremely dilated” pupils.
He was arrested and charged with DUI, causing property damage and refusing to submit to a lawful urine test. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on March 31.
Woods had also previously left the United States for an inpatient treatment facility in Zurich, Switzerland. During that period, he briefly returned to the U.S. on May 13 to support Trump amid her breast cancer treatment, according to sources cited by PEOPLE.
