Serayah has ended her engagement to Joey Bada$$, saying repeated infidelity made it impossible for her to continue their relationship.
The 31-year-old actress and mother of their 15-month-old son announced the split in an Aug. 25 Instagram post, saying she had reached a point where choosing herself had become necessary.
“After much thought, I have made the difficult decision to end my engagement and relationship with the father of my child, Joey,” she wrote.
Serayah said she had believed “wholeheartedly” in the life they were building together but eventually had to confront what she described as repeated infidelity.
“Unfortunately, I also had to face a painful truth: there had been repeated infidelity throughout our relationship, including during some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of my life,” she said.
She explained that she was sharing the information not for sympathy or retaliation, but because she believes women should not be made to doubt themselves when something is wrong in their relationships.
“Don’t make yourself smaller to keep someone else comfortable,” she wrote.
“Don’t compromise your values because you’re afraid of losing the future you imagined. And don’t allow someone else’s choices to become a referendum on your worth.”
Joey has not publicly addressed the breakup or Serayah’s claims.
Despite the end of their relationship, Serayah said their son remains her priority and that she intends to protect his privacy and relationship with both parents.
“I will always respect the fact that we share a beautiful son,” she wrote.
“And my priority will be protecting his peace, privacy and relationship with both of his parents.”
Serayah said the relationship “did not end the way I prayed it would,” but she remains hopeful about what comes next.
“Endings can also be beginnings,” she wrote.
